FoodsMaking healthy food choices is one of the most important steps in any successful diet. A successful diet plan is one that enables you to lose weight and MAINTAIN the weight loss. In addition to eating right, diet pills may be able to help you lose weight. Learn about safe and effective FDA approved diet pills. What to eat? What you eat to achieve weight loss may be different for different people, however, lowering fat intake is central to reducing caloric and fat intake. What you're doing while dieting is also important. The extent to which you're exercising, for example, is significant in terms of how many calories a day a person should consume. Taking prescription or over the counter diet pills, or following specialized diets such as low carb diets will also impact the type of diet used for weight loss. There is no one diet suitable for everyone. There are, however, guidelines that any person interested in eating a healthful diet should follow.
Understand first the various categories of foods. Meats Stay away from meats that are high in fat. Examples include regular ground beef (chose lean), fatty pork chops (choose lean), bacon (both lean and low sodium varieties), etc... Choose your meats sensibly, making sure the cuts are lean and contain little fat. All meat contains some fat, and the body requires a degree of fat. Simply minimize the fat intake. Seafood & Fish Seafood and fish are typically low in fat (avoid the 'oily' varieties). The fat they contain is generally considered 'good' fat. Fish and seafood also contain many other essential nutrients, making them a very wise choice for those trying to lose weight. Use fish instead of meat in your favorite dishes, and don't eat fish or seafood products that are deep fried! Vegetables Vegetables are an absolute must in any diet, whether weight loss is a goal or not. Vegetables have so many positive ingredients to offer the body that eating a large variety of vegetables is always a good idea. Always try to avoid adding butter or sauces to your vegetables. Instead, try experimenting with herbs for flavor. Fruit Fruit ranks right up the scale along with vegetables, regardless of weight loss. Every diet should include several servings of fruit every day, preferably many different kinds of fruit. In addition, kids love fruit and it serves very well as a great dessert. Cheap, fast and easy. Fruit is truly an ideal food. Dairy Products Dairy products are necessary in any diet due to the calcium and other benefits they provide. An important rule of thumb when it comes to dairy is to always consume 'low fat' or 'no fat' products. Choosing a low fat version of any cheese, for example, can cut the fat and calories ingested by more than half. Deserts and Sweets Those who are dieting for weight loss should avoid these foods. Although many will tell you they are always BAD, BAD, BAD, this is not typically the case. Many Nutritionists agree that eating sweets infrequently and in small quantities - using them more as a treat - is an excellent way to help people stay on a diet plan, without feeling like they're being tortured! Snack Foods Always minimize intake of tradition snack foods that are typically high in fat, including potato chips, baked goods, etc. Changing the way you snack is believed by some to be one of the most important dietary changes any person interested in eating better or loosing weight can make. Most people snack. The trick is to change your snack foods to more healthful alternatives, such as fruit, carrots, celery, fat free yogurts, and other 'smart' snacks. Cooking Right! Even if you only ate foods that are good for you, if you choose to deep fry them or smother them in butter, the fat content will hit the roof! Although it is always a good idea to eat broccoli, it is not always a good idea to drench the broccoli in cheese sauce! Remember to use as little fat as possible when preparing any food. Use your barbeque more often and stay away from the frying pan! Use your broiler if you don't have access to a BBQ. Steam your vegetables, don't add sugar to fruit, and if you are going to fry, use canola or olive oil. Don't just think twice before you deep fry. Think as many times as it takes to convince yourself that there are better alternatives!
